What does Class A fire rating mean and how is it tested?

A Class A fire rating represents the highest rating achievable. It indicates a flame spread of 0-25 and smoke development of 0-45.

The ASTM E2768 is used to test surface burning characteristics and takes place in a Steiner Tunnel.

The test gathers data to determine the fire rating classification. Some of the data that is recorded:
Flame Spread for the first 10 minutes
Maximum Flame Front Distance
Smoke Developed Index for the first 10 minutes
Time to Ignition
Flame Spread Distance vs. Time
Maximum Flame Spread Distance
Temperature vs. Time
Time to Maximum Temperature
